(also see the current Newsletter for additional information)

May 4 (Saturday).  The club plans to participate in the Championship Chili Cook off on Saturday, May 4. The proceeds of this annual event benefit the Greenvale School – and the event is a local staple in Downtown Roanoke.

Set-up will begin at 7:00 am, with the official cook-off beginning at 10:00 am – when we can "start our stove engines". Additional volunteers are needed and welcomed. Please contact Karen Saunders at karen@roanokeskiclub.org or at 540-520-9560. A fun time will be had by all.

May 21 (Tuesday, 5:30 PM).  Happy Hour at Fork in the Alley, 2123 Crystal Spring Ave.,  Roanoke, VA (526-6363).  Enjoy good food and drink with your Ski Club buddies.  Hosted by Bruce and Fran Wessel.  Draft beer $1 off from 4 - 7 pm.

June 8-9 (Saturday and Sunday nights).    Virginia Win Country Weekend.  Lodging, Full Breakfast, evening wine tasting at the Iris Inn Bed & Breakfast.

Saturday includes any of the following, your choice: A visit to Polyface Farm - White Oak Lavender Farm - Ox Eye Tasting Room - Barboursville Vineyard and Historic Ruins, or relaxing in rockers and enjoying the sights at the Iris Inn!

Sunday - THE Day for the Virginia Wine Tour! Talcott Limo Service pick-up at the Inn. Transportation via 2 -14 passenger vehicles with such amenities as TV and DVD. A "picnic lunch back-pack" can be prepared by the Iris Inn for those interested. Five+ hours to 3 wineries and perhaps ending with dinner at a local "brewery". The tour will take us to KING FAMILY VINEYARD and VERITAS VINEYARD (a third in the works...) to include watching a bit of an afternoon polo match at King Family! Tasting costs are "separate" and cannot be included by law.

Estimated cost for the weekend adventure to be $500-$600 per couple or approximately $300 for a single person. Room rates are based on DOUBLE occupancy. We have the full INN (6 rooms) with spillover into the cottages and cabins.

First deposit of $250 was due April 26 and rooms are filling up very quickly. I plan to cut-off at 24 to keep the winery tour a manageable number. Please make checks payable to Roanoke Ski Club and mail to Shelley Gibson, Activities Director, 97 Jameswood Ct, Forest , VA 24551. Email shelley@roanokeskiclub.org. Mobile phone 434-444-3951

July 27 (Saturday, 3:30pm).  Bluegrass & BBQ at the Phlegar Family Farm.  Prepare to enjoy a fun day of canoeing, kayaking, swimming, hiking....it is your choice how you care to spend the day! Arrive after 3:30 pm at the farm for eating, music, dancing and just socializing among old and new friends. Socialize in an atmosphere that is designed for folks to relax and for children of all ages to play in a worry free and safe environment. Mr. Pig has been invited to and "for" supper Saturday night. To compliment Mr. Pig, we ask that you bring a prepared dish rather than a store bought can or bag of something. The food can be stored in the house and heated on the cooker which warms Mr. Pig.

Please RSVP by July 15 if you are coming and the number of people in your party. This will help to determine the size of Mr. Pig to invite. A small donation would be appreciated to help pay for the BBQ, plates, cups, utensils and Port-A-Johns! Please bring your beverage of choice, something to sit on, covered dish and an attitude to have some fun!

Canoe/Kayak float trips on the near-by New River are available through Tangent Outfitters in Pembroke, VA. Phone 540-626-4567. The last time we had this event a group of us gathered at Tangent and canoed/kayaked together prior to the BBQ. More information and details in future newsletters, but please mark your calendars now for this fun event! I understand from the Phlegar's this is the last time for the Bluegrass & BBQ event that has been a long-time family tradition.

September 27 - 29 (Friday - Sunday).  Weekend at the Inn At Mountain Quest in West Virginia.  The Club is returning to the Inn after last year's successful and popular weekend.  Mark your calendars now.  We have the entire Inn reserved but space will be limited to 15-20.  Details to follow at at later date.

Many more activities are in the works.
